It identifies a gap in the integration of self-compassion practices into psychotherapy. The program is a response to the growing acknowledgment among psychotherapists of the importance of self-compassion for mental health and wellbeing. It aims to equip therapists who have benefited from Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) practices with the skills to incorporate these principles into their clinical work. Furthermore\, it seeks to support clinicians in using their personal mindfulness and compassion practices as a foundation for fostering effective therapeutic relationships and interventions. This initiative is also driven by the desire to offer a continuing education experience that is inclusive and welcoming to all identities and intersections of identity\, addressing the call for greater diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and belonging in therapeutic practices. \nThe SCIP program is specifically designed for: \n\nPsychotherapists of all persuasions who recognize the significance of self-compassion in mental health and wish to deeply integrate it into their practice.\nTherapists who have benefited from MSC practice and aim to incorporate MSC principles and practices into their client treatments.\nClinicians seeking to base their therapeutic relationships and interventions on their personal mindfulness and compassion practices.\nTherapists in search of a continuing education experience that is inclusive and accommodating to all identities and intersections thereof.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLEARN MORE\n\n\nTO REGISTER: Please complete the application form on the SCIP website.  \n\n\nAPPLY HERE

SUMMARY:Advanced Empathic Attunement Phase 2: Broadening Your Skills
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to be part of an exciting experience with The Centre for MindBody Health (CMBH) and immerse yourself in the enriching opportunity to learn from Dr. Robert Elliott. They will guide us through an engaging training session on Advanced Empathic Attunement. \nAdvanced Empathic Attunement Phase 2: Broadening Your Skills\nFacilitated by: Dr. Robert Elliott. Ph.D. \nDates: February 7 & 8\, 2025 \nTime: 11:00am – 2:15pm (EDT) \nLocation: Online via Zoom \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE \n \nAbout the Workshop \nEmpathy is a process common to all forms of therapy\, but also the secret ingredient in EFT\, the process that makes all the chair work and other tasks work. Therapist empathy is both under-rated and essential\, simple and complex\, seemingly obvious and at the same time elusive. Empathy is something that most folks think they naturally do already; however\, we often find it to be challenging\, subtle and elusive. At times our empathy seems almost miraculous and even life changing\, both for our clients and for us. Nevertheless\, at other times our attempts at being empathic are restricted\, wooden and disappointing. What makes the difference? \nIn two half-days of this workshop\, we continue the process of unpacking the empathic attunement process in psychotherapy\, with special relevance to EFT practice: On Day 1 we briefly review the rich variety of empathic responses before taking a closer look at two workhorses of the therapeutic work: exploratory reflection and process reflection. On Day 2 we move on to two more advanced empathic response modes: empathic conjecture and empathic formulation before concluding the empathic refocusing. The training will be supported with brief lectures\, video examples\, and skill practice. \nLearning Objectives \n\nDevelop your “empathic attitude” of curiosity & openness toward clients\nEnhance the level and quality of your empathic responding\nBroaden your repertoire of empathic responses\nUse empathic responses to help clients move toward the implicit edges of their awareness and put together useful self-understandings\n\nPresenter \nRobert Elliott\, Ph.D.\, is professor emeritus of counselling at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow\, Scotland). They received a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of California\, Los Angeles\, and are also professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Toledo (Ohio). Robert’s main research interests are in change processes in humanistic-experiential psychotherapies and psychotherapy research methodology. They co-authored Facilitating emotional change (1993)\, Learning emotion-focused psychotherapy (2004)\, Research methods in clinical psychology (2015)\, Essentials of Descriptive-Interpretive Qualitative Research (2021)\, and Emotion-Focused Counselling in Action (2021)\, as well as almost 200 journal articles and book chapters. Robert is past president of the Society for Psychotherapy Research\, and previously co-edited the journals Psychotherapy Research\, and Person-Centered and Experiential Psychotherapies.
