SUMMARY:Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy: Strategies for Working with Depression and Anxiety
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy: Strategies for Working with Depression and Anxiety\nFacilitated by: Dr. Zindel Segal\, Ph.D. \nDates: December 5 & 6\, 2025 \nTime: 11:00am – 2:30pm (ET) \nLocation: Online via Zoom \nCurious About This Training with Zindel?  \nWATCH THE PREVIEW \n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE \n  \nAbout the Workshop \nMindfulness meditation has been shown to disengage neural networks supporting rumination and worry\, along with improving clinical outcomes through increased tolerance of negative affective states. By addressing transdiagnostic factors that increase risk for disorder onset and recurrence\, training in mindfulness meditation can be employed with a host of physical and emotional disorders as means of providing individuals with greater choice during moments of reactivity and alarm. Yet our clients managing depressive and anxious disorders require more than just an on-ramp to practice meditation. For example\, how does the practice of mindfulness sit alongside cognitive and behavioural interventions that have also shown to be of benefit\, how do we language and guide mindfulness practices to respond to clinical concerns? \nWe will address these questions through the lens of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy\, an 8 week structured program that integrates mindfulness mediation with the tools of cognitive therapy for prevention of mood disorders. Combining didactic content with periods of experiential practice\, we will examine how to integrate and appropriately sequence formal/informal mindfulness practices\, identify somatic cues of emotional expression and set up a treatment frame where affect regulation based on ‘allowing’ and ‘letting be’ in contrast to cognitive reappraisal\, can be encouraged. In these ways\, clients can develop a different relationship to their depressive or anxious experiences\, one marked by greater choice and agency. \nLearning Objectives \nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nReview the evidence base for mindfulness meditation in the treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders.\nUnderstand how to integrate and appropriately sequence formal/informal mindfulness practices into the psychotherapeutic treatment of Major Depressive Disorder.\nEngage in experiential practice of the 3 Minute Breathing Space and understand how brief changes in attentional focus can be used to address negative automatic processing cycles.\nDiscuss why mindfulness is about more than relaxation.\nLearn about the role of sensory processing as an opponent process to cognitive elaboration.\nReview language and pacing when guiding mindfulness practices.\n\nPresenter \nZindel Segal\, PhD\, is Distinguished Professor of Psychology in Mood Disorders at the University of Toronto Scarborough. An award winning clinical psychologist and continuously funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health\, his program of research characterized psychological markers of relapse vulnerability in affective disorder which\, in turn\, provided an empirical rationale for offering training in mindfulness meditation to recurrently depressed patients in recovery. An author of over 10 books and 230 scientific publications\, including The Mindful Way Through Depression and Better in Every Sense – guides for achieving mood balance in everyday life – Dr. Segal continues to advocate for the relevance of mindfulness-based clinical care in psychiatry and mental health. \nTarget Audience \n\nThis workshop will be helpful to psychotherapists of all persuasions who recognize the significance of mindfulness practice in mental health and wish to integrate it into their practice.\nTherapists with personal experience of mindfulness who would like to understand the points of interaction between mindfulness meditation and clinical care.\nClinicians seeking to base their therapeutic relationships and interventions on their personal mindfulness and contemplative practices.\nTherapists in search of a continuing education experience that is inclusive and accommodating to all identities and intersections thereof.\n\nWebinar Recording \nThis webinar will be recorded and shared with all registrants within 5-7 of the webinar taking place. The recording will be available for 60 days once released. \nCourse Fees:  \n\nStudent Early Bird: $195 + HST = $220.35\nIndividual Early-Bird: $295 + HST = $333.35\nStudent Regular: $225 + HST = $254.25\nIndividual Regular: $325 + HST = $367.25\n\nEARLY-BIRD DEADLINE: November 14\, 2025 \n* Students must email a copy/scan of their valid student ID or confirmation of enrolment upon purchasing their ticket to: cmbhworkshops@gmail.com \n** A 5% discount is available for groups of 5+ registering at the same time. SUMMARY:Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
DESCRIPTION:Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder\nNovember & December 2025 (Including Nov 18+19\, 25+26\, Dec 2+3\, Dec 9+10)\n9:00 am – 1:00 pm EDT \nOnline via Zoom \nFacilitated by: Drs. Martin Bohus & Shelley McMain \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE \nThis 4-week course\, offered through the Centre for MindBody Health\, provides a comprehensive examination of DBT-PTSD based on a psycho-social model. Within this model\, dysfunctional behaviors are understood as strategies to avoid or escape from trauma-associated primary emotions like powerlessness\, threat\, anxiety\, disgust\, humiliation\, or sexual arousal. The model posits that these emotions are corroborated by dysfunctional cognitive assumptions and dysfunctional behaviors such as self-injury\, suicidal ideation\, dissociation or intoxication and that problematic secondary emotions such as shame\, guilt\, self-hatred\, or chronic anger develop over time into problematic self-concepts which impair quality of life. \nDBT-PTSD primarily aims to help patients: a) Revise their fear of trauma-associated primary emotions\, b) Question whether secondary emotions like guilt and shame fit the facts\, and c) Radically accept the fact of trauma in their lives to establish a life worth living. The treatment program is designed to be delivered in a residential program (three-months) or in an outpatient setting (45 weeks). \nThis 4-week course provides comprehensive training in DBT-PTSD including a manual. SUMMARY:Psychedelic Assisted Therapy\, Mindfulness and Compassion: Key Insights for Clinicians
DESCRIPTION:Missed the live training on May 30 & 31\, 2025? Purchase recording access today and immerse yourself in this training opportunity led by the renowned Dr. Ronald Siegel\, delving into “Psychedelic Assisted Therapy\, Mindfulness and Compassion: Key Insights for Clinicians\,” to enhance your knowledge and skills of innovative therapeutic approaches. \nPsychedelic Assisted Therapy\, Mindfulness and Compassion: Key Insights for Clinicians\nFacilitated by: Dr. Ronald Siegel\, Psy.D. \nAbout the Workshop \nEver since Freud\, psychotherapists have worked with non-ordinary states such as dreams\, hypnosis\, and free association to understand and heal the heart and mind. In the past decade\, mindfulness and compassion practices have become mainstream tools\, while more recently\, research on psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy has mushroomed. Psychedelics\, often combined with insights from mindfulness and compassion practices\, now offer not only possible breakthrough treatments for PTSD\, depression\, addictions\, and end-of-life anxiety but also provide new insights into the nature of psychological distress and mechanisms of healing. \nWhat can clinicians learn from these developments? What can they teach us about the neurobiology of human suffering and flourishing? How can they inform our practice? \nIn this interactive workshop\, you’ll learn practical tools and techniques derived from mindfulness and compassion-oriented treatment and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy to help clients with a wide-array of disorders. We’ll explore ways to help clients integrate split-off traumatic memories\, open their hearts\, embrace vulnerability\, surrender to the flow of ever-changing experience\, move from isolation to deep connection with people and nature\, appreciate the unreliable fluidity of thought\, and find meaning in everyday moments. \nYou’ll learn how to use mindfulness and self-compassion practices along with other techniques to harness these healing mechanisms\, while also gaining the knowledge necessary to help clients who might be experimenting with psychedelics to integrate and grow from their experiences. \nLearning Objectives \nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify the common elements in a wide variety of psychological disorders\nDescribe how mindfulness practices work to resolve psychological distress\nDiscuss the role of compassion and self-compassion in psychotherapeutic progress\nSummarize current research demonstrating efficacy and mechanisms of action in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy\nDiscuss how to advise patients considering psychedelic experiences outside of treatment and how to help those who engage in these to integrate the experience.\nDiscuss the role of transpersonal or “mystical” experience in both mindfulness-informed and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy\nDescribe practical ways to introduce the transformative elements of mindfulness and compassion-informed\, and psychedelic-assisted sessions into other forms of psychotherapy\n\nPresenter \nDr. Ronald D. Siegel is an Assistant Professor of Psychology\, part time\, at Harvard Medical School\, where he has taught for over 35 years. He is a long-time student of mindfulness meditation and serves on the Board of Directors and faculty of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. He teaches internationally about the application of mindfulness practice in psychotherapy and other fields\, and maintains a private clinical practice in Lincoln\, Massachusetts. \nDr. Siegel is author of a comprehensive guide for general audiences\, The Mindfulness Solution: Everyday Practices for Everyday Problems; coeditor of the critically acclaimed text\, Mindfulness and Psychotherapy\, 2nd Edition and of Wisdom and Compassion in Psychotherapy; coauthor of the professional guide Sitting Together: Essential Skills for Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy; coauthor of the self-treatment guide Back Sense\, which integrates Western and Eastern approaches for treating chronic back pain; and author of the recent book\, The Extraordinary Gift of Being Ordinary: Finding Happiness Right Where You Are. He is also professor for The Science of Mindfulness: A Research-Based Path to Well-Being produced by The Great Courses\, a regular contributor to other professional publications\, and co-director of the annual Harvard Medical School Conferences on Meditation and Psychotherapy and Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy. \nTarget Audience \nThis workshop is intended for all health care professionals seeking to develop skills and offer interventions in a safe\, effective way for their clients dealing with trauma and other mental health challenges. \nRecording Access \nThis webinar was recorded live. SUMMARY:Advanced Empathic Attunement Phase 2: Broadening Your Skills
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to be part of an exciting experience with The Centre for MindBody Health (CMBH) and immerse yourself in the enriching opportunity to learn from Dr. Robert Elliott. They will guide us through an engaging training session on Advanced Empathic Attunement. \nAdvanced Empathic Attunement Phase 2: Broadening Your Skills\nFacilitated by: Dr. Robert Elliott. Ph.D. \nDates: February 7 & 8\, 2025 \nTime: 11:00am – 2:15pm (EDT) \nLocation: Online via Zoom \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE \n \nAbout the Workshop \nEmpathy is a process common to all forms of therapy\, but also the secret ingredient in EFT\, the process that makes all the chair work and other tasks work. Therapist empathy is both under-rated and essential\, simple and complex\, seemingly obvious and at the same time elusive. Empathy is something that most folks think they naturally do already; however\, we often find it to be challenging\, subtle and elusive. At times our empathy seems almost miraculous and even life changing\, both for our clients and for us. Nevertheless\, at other times our attempts at being empathic are restricted\, wooden and disappointing. What makes the difference? \nIn two half-days of this workshop\, we continue the process of unpacking the empathic attunement process in psychotherapy\, with special relevance to EFT practice: On Day 1 we briefly review the rich variety of empathic responses before taking a closer look at two workhorses of the therapeutic work: exploratory reflection and process reflection. On Day 2 we move on to two more advanced empathic response modes: empathic conjecture and empathic formulation before concluding the empathic refocusing. The training will be supported with brief lectures\, video examples\, and skill practice. \nLearning Objectives \n\nDevelop your “empathic attitude” of curiosity & openness toward clients\nEnhance the level and quality of your empathic responding\nBroaden your repertoire of empathic responses\nUse empathic responses to help clients move toward the implicit edges of their awareness and put together useful self-understandings\n\nPresenter \nRobert Elliott\, Ph.D.\, is professor emeritus of counselling at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow\, Scotland). They received a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of California\, Los Angeles\, and are also professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Toledo (Ohio). Robert’s main research interests are in change processes in humanistic-experiential psychotherapies and psychotherapy research methodology. SUMMARY:Integrating IFS Techniques for Trauma Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Integrating IFS Techniques for Trauma Resilience\nFacilitated by: Dr. Richard C. Schwartz \nDates: December 6 & 7\, 2024 \nTime: 11:00am – 2:30pm (ET) \nLocation: Online via Zoom \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE\nJoin The Centre for MindBody Health (CMBH) to explore Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy led by Dr. Richard Schwartz. Acquire valuable insights for trauma work and elevate your skills. \n \nWorkshop Description \nThis workshop will provide a brief review of the basics of the IFS model by Richard Schwartz\, PhD\, who developed the model\, then will focus in detail on its use with attachment and trauma. IFS is a non-pathologizing\, hopeful framework within which to practice psychotherapy now certified as an evidence-based practice by SAMHSA. IFS offers both a conceptual umbrella under which a variety of practices and different approaches can be grounded and guided\, and a set of original techniques for creating safety and fostering Self-to-Self connection in individuals\, couples and families. \nThe workshop will focus on helping clients release personal burdens related to traumatic experiences in their lives. An overview of the clinical applications of IFS in trauma work will be presented. You will learn through didactic teaching\, interactive dialogue\, demonstration and live interviews. \nAs the workshops progress the focus will be on understanding and releasing legacy burdens. Legacy burdens are powerful organizers of our minds and behaviors. You will be become more aware of the beliefs and emotions we and our clients absorb from family\, peers\, ethnic groups and cultural contexts regarding ourselves and/or groups with whom we identify\, as well as groups we consider “other.”  We will explore the sources of those burdens and the fears of releasing them. This work is critically important to create more peace and less divisiveness in our often fractured world. \nGrounded in systems thinking\, Dr. Schwartz developed Internal Family Systems SM\, in response to clients’ descriptions of various parts within themselves.  He focused on the systemic relationships patterns among these parts that were similarly organized across clients.  He found that when clients’ parts felt safe and were allowed to relax\, they would experience spontaneously the qualities of confidence\, openness\, and compassion that Dr. Schwartz came to call the Self.  He will show us how to support clients in that state of Self\, to facilitate their healing of their own parts. \nLearning Objectives \nAt the end of this 2 Day Workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify the basic theory and principles of Internal Family Systems therapy\nApply techniques to access their clients’ Self- a core of compassion and other leadership qualities\nAssess client “resistance” more effectively and with less effort\nExplain the effects of trauma on parts and Self\nApply the model in treating trauma\nAssess awareness of their own parts and how those parts impact therapy\nApply IFS principles to transference and counter-transference\n\nPresenter \nDick Schwartz began his career as a family therapist and an academic at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There he discovered that family therapy alone did not achieve full symptom relief and in asking patients why\, he learned that they were plagued by what they called “parts.” These patients became his teachers as they described how their parts formed networks of inner relationship that resembled the families he had been working with. He also found that as they focused on and\, thereby\, separated from their parts\, they would shift into a state characterized by qualities like curiosity\, calm\, confidence and compassion. He called that inner essence the Self and was amazed to find it even in severely diagnosed and traumatized patients. From these explorations the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model was born in the early 1980s. \nIFS is now evidence-based and has become a widely-used form of psychotherapy\, particularly with trauma. It provides a non-pathologizing\, optimistic\, and empowering perspective and a practical and effective set of techniques for working with individuals\, couples\, families\, and more recently\, corporations and classrooms. \nDick lives with his wife Jeanne near Chicago\, close to his three daughters and his growing number of grandchildren. \nCourse Fees \nRegular: $325 CAD + HST = $367.25 CAD \nEarly-Bird Regular: $295 CAD + HST = $333.35 CAD \nStudent*: $225 CAD + HST = $254.25 CAD \nEarly-Bird Student*: $195 CAD + HST = $220.35 CAD \nEARLY-BIRD DEADLINE: November 26\, 2024 \n* Students must email a copy/scan of their valid student ID or confirmation of enrolment upon purchasing their ticket to:cmbhworkshops@gmail.com \n** A 5% discount is available for groups of 5+ registering at the same time. SUMMARY:Online Training – Advanced Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
DESCRIPTION:Advanced Dialectical Behavior for Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder\nOctober 30 & 31\, 2024\n9:00 am – 3:00 pm ET \nOnline via Zoom \nFacilitated by: Drs. Martin Bohus & Shelley McMain \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE \n  \nThis two-day case-based learning workshop focuses on Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Complex PTSD (DBT-PTSD). Through didactic learning and selected case presentations\, the training will address topics presenting the greatest challenges for participants. \nDBT-PTSD is tailored to treat adult PTSD after childhood abuse\, including those with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Most of these people show severe problems in emotion regulation\, negative self-concept\, dysfunctional memory processing and maladaptive social interaction. To target these core domains\, DBT-PTSD merges multiple evidence-based elements: DBT principles\, trauma-specific cognitive and exposure-based techniques\, compassion focused interventions and behavior change procedures. The treatment program is designed to be delivered in a residential program (three-months) or in an outpatient setting (45 weeks). Data from a multi-center RCT under outpatient conditions (n=200; 100%female) showed significant improvement in all relevant domains as well as significant superiority of DBT-PTSD versus Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). \nDBT-PTSD is based on a psycho-social model. Typical dysfunctional behaviors can predominantly be understood as strategies to avoid or escape from trauma-associated primary emotions like powerlessness\, threat\, anxiety\, disgust\, humiliation or sexual arousal. Corroborated by dysfunctional cognitive assumptions\, dysfunctional behaviors such as self-injury\, suicidal ideation\, dissociation\, or intoxication and problematic secondary emotions such as shame\, guilt\, self-hatred\, or chronic anger develop over time into problematic self-concepts that strongly impair quality of life. DBT-PTSD aims to help people: a) Revise their fear of trauma-associated primary emotions\, b) Question whether secondary emotions like guilt and shame fit the facts\, and c) Radically accept the fact of trauma in their lives in order to establish a life worth living. \nCOURSE PREREQUISITE : \nThis course is intended for experienced clinicians who have completed DBT-PTSD Part I and want additional training and consultation in applying the skills and strategies of the DBT-PTSD model. \n  \nPRESENTERS \n \nDr. Martin Bohus\, MD \nMartin Bohus\, MD\, received his specialty in Psychiatry and in Psychosomatic Medicine. Since 2003 he holds the Chair of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Heidelberg University and is Scientific Director at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim. He holds a visiting professorship at University of Antwerp and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bohus has received several awards for psychotherapy research. SUMMARY:Cultivating Therapeutic Presence: Boosting Your Foundation for a Strong Alliance and Effective Therapy
DESCRIPTION:May 9 & 10\, 2024\n9:00 am – 12:30 pm ET\nOnline via Zoom video conferencing \nHosted By: York University Psychology Clinic\nFacilitated by: Dr. Shari Geller\, Ph.D.\, C.Psych. \nCost: $300 CAD ($250 CDN for full-time graduate students and York faculty/staff\, $225 for York University graduate students). \nLearn More\nWhat to Expect \nTherapeutic presence (TP) and self-compassion (SC) are essential factors in effective therapeutic and clinical relationships. Therapeutic presence is a way of being that optimizes the doing and techniques of therapy. Growing research is demonstrating therapeutic presence as a common factor to a strong therapeutic alliance and outcome. Presence provides clients with a sense of safety\, allowing them to be seen\, heard\, understood\, and “feel felt\,” while also strengthening the therapeutic relationship so they can engage in effective therapeutic work. TP invites therapists to balance presence and compassion within themselves and with clients\, ensuring they remain centered and effective even in the face of difficult emotions. This type of relationship helps regulate clients’ emotions and supports their movement towards emotional health and neurophysiological integration. Practicing TP also sustains clinicians’ vitality\, connection\, and effectiveness. \nSelf-compassion is also a key resource for clinicians\, allowing them to work through the challenges and barriers to being fully present and attuned. Research shows that SC is strongly associated with therapists’ emotional well-being and balance\, and more fulfilling relationships. Together\, therapeutic presence and self-compassion are powerful resources for counsellors to maintain emotional balance in the midst of challenging clinical work\, to enjoy their work and their clients more fully\, and to prevent caregiver fatigue and burn-out. \nIn this two-part training\, we will explore an empirically validated model of TP and how to create safety using neurophysiological principles based on concepts such as coregulation and neuroception of safety stemming from Polyvagal Theory (Geller & Porges\, 2014). We will also explore working with barriers to presence with self-compassion. We will incorporate core\, evidenced-based presence practices from Dr. Geller’s books\, ‘A Practical Guide for Cultivating Therapeutic Presence’ and ‘Therapeutic Presence: A Mindful Approach to Effective Therapeutic Relationships (coauthored with Dr. Leslie Greenberg). The workshop will weave didactic learning with experiential presence\, mindfulness\, and self-compassion practices\, with techniques offered for cultivating presence during therapy and in life for clinicians\, students\, and clients. \nIn this training you will: \n\nExplore an empirically validated model of therapeutic presence along with core presence practices\nDiscover the neurophysiological mechanisms of therapeutic presence\nLearn practices and skills for attuning in the moment with clients\nPractice self-compassion techniques to sustain emotional connection with clients and work through the barriers to presence\nApply presence and self-compassion skills for self-care and to prevent and alleviate burnout\nReceive take home practices for clients\, students\, trainees and for yourself\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Online Training – Harnessing the Power of Emotion: An Emotion-Focused Approach to Complex Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Join The Centre for MindBody Health (CMBH) for a captivating opportunity to discover the insights of Emotion Focused Therapy for clients dealing with trauma\, led by the esteemed Dr. Antonio Pascual-Leone. \nHarnessing the Power of Emotion: An Emotion-Focused Approach to Complex Trauma \nFacilitated by: Dr. Antonio Pascual-Leone. Ph.D.\, C.Psych. \nDates: May 3 & 4\, 2024 \nTime: 11:00am – 2:15pm (EST) | 4:00pm – 7:15pm (GMT) \nLocation: Online via Zoom \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE\nAbout the Workshop \nPsychotherapy clients with histories of childhood abuse and complex relational trauma are ubiquitous and have notoriously high drop-out rates. These clients have been unable to heal past emotional injuries and often have difficulty handling exposure-based therapies\, which usually are not designed for attachment-related problems. Successful therapy requires helping clients access and explore painful feelings in order to modify maladaptive emotions. Emotion-Focused Therapy for Trauma (EFTT) is an empirically-validated treatment for individuals suffering from complex trauma\, and offers a research-based treatment from an experiential approach. This workshop will: \n\nPresent theory on treating complex trauma\, PTSD\, and survivors of child abuse.\nIdentify steps in the process of resolving past relational issues\, as well as key ideas about emotion focused theory for understanding trauma.\nGive video examples of expert therapists\, and case vignettes\, related to the treatment of  complex trauma. Specifically\, these will demonstrate the use of methods inspired by gestalt for dialoguing with imagined significant others in an empty chair.\n\nLearning Objectives \n\nLearn about the roles of emotion when working with trauma.\nUnderstand how adaptive emotion can be used to change maladaptive emotion.\nDevelop techniques for deepening client experience when emotion is activated.\nBecome familiar with the use of chairwork for complex trauma.\nConceptualize cases from an emotion-oriented perspective.\n\nPresenter \nAntonio Pascual-Leone is a professor in Psychology at the University of Windsor (Canada)\, where he is director of the Emotion Change Lab\, and is honorary professor of Psychiatry at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). The first part of session one will explore the evolution and biopsychosocial model of compassion that was developed to be used as a psychotherapeutic orientation. Participants will explore how the four basic functions of mind (motives\, emotions competencies and behaviours) can all be textured by compassion and can also support compassion. We will explore how compassion can affect our physiological and psychological processes\, such as capacities for empathy\, mindfulness\, and a sense of identity and how compassion can impact our social behaviour. Because of its important physiological effects\, compassion can create experiences of safeness and connectedness. Participants will be introduced to some body-based and imagery-based practices for compassion activation and cultivation. The second session will look at how to apply compassion focused therapy that can help people with trauma while also exploring the challenges different types of trauma create. \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nUnderstand the integration of various therapeutic modalities within compassion focused therapy\, such as cognitive behavior therapy and body-based approaches\, and how they contribute to its effectiveness in addressing trauma.\nGain knowledge about the biopsychosocial model of compassion and its relevance as a psychotherapeutic orientation\, including its impact on motives\, emotions\, competencies\, and behaviours.\nExplore the physiological and psychological processes influenced by compassion\, including empathy\, mindfulness\, sense of identity\, and social behavior\, and how they can be enhanced through compassion-focused interventions.\nRecognize the physiological effects of compassion\, particularly in creating experiences of safety and connectedness\, and learn body-based and imagery-based practices for activating and cultivating compassion.\nApply compassion focused therapy principles and techniques to effectively address your clients’ trauma\, while examining the unique challenges posed by different types of trauma.\n\n  \nPresenter \nDr. Paul Gilbert\, FBPsS\, OBE\, is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Derby and honorary visiting Professor at the University of Queensland. SUMMARY:Cultivating Therapeutic Presence to Heal Relational Trauma in AEDP\, EFT\, and Transtheoretically
DESCRIPTION:Online via Zoom \nFacilitated By:   \nDr. Shari Geller & Ben Lipton\, LCSW \nDescription: \nThrough the complementary lenses of AEDP™ and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)\, this workshop will address the role of therapeutic presence in the service of psychological healing and transformation. Much more than a background component of psychotherapy\, it is a primary and powerful tool for processing trauma and facilitating positive psychological change. \nPresence is essential to developing a highly attuned and mutually coordinated healing relationship—a fundamental requirement for effective therapy across many different orientations.  Therapeutic presence is a way of being that reflects a therapist’s full\, embodied engagement\, in the moment\, in relationship with their clients. \nParallel to the implicit processes of caregiver-infant security engendering attachment relationships\, the explicit cultivation of therapeutic presence allows clients to acknowledge\, explore and process the difficult and often painful terrain of relational trauma from the base of a safe and supportive relational connection with their therapist. Likewise\, it provides a turbocharged container for processing powerful emergent experiences of health and flourishing. \nIn this workshop presenters will share video sessions with patients to demonstrate hallmark techniques. \nMain Points of Seminar: \nTherapeutic presence: \n\nIs essential for coordinated healing relationships.\nRequires and also allows for attunement to verbal and nonverbal client communications.\nIs both an internal experience and a relational experience.\nDraws upon attachment research\nIs a key component of healing trauma in psychotherapy.\nEmbodies neurophysiological principles to creating safety based on concepts such as co-regulation and neuroception from Polyvagal Theory (Geller & Porges\, 2014).\n\nThere are three over-arching categories of therapeutic presence: preparation\, process and experience. AEDP and EFT both offer optimal models for cultivating and utilizing therapeutic presence to heal trauma. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDescribe the foundational model for therapeutic presence in effective therapy.\nIdentify the link between neuroscience research and therapeutic presence for cultivating safety\nPractice in-session skills of therapeutic presence to enhance your clinical practice.\nApply specific techniques from AEDP and EFT to embody therapeutic presence in life and in session.\nDifferentiate “being” from “doing” in the clinical application of therapeutic presence in AEDP\, EFT and transtheoretically.\nPractice self-compassion to work with challenges to therapeutic presence in life and in session.\n\nCost: \nEarly Bird Pricing Ends April 3\, 2023 \nAEDP Member: $199.00 USD\nNon-Member: $225.00 USD \nAfter April 3\, 2023 \nAEDP Member: $225.00 USD\nNon-Member: $240.00 USD \nScholarships are available. Based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer\, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness\, care and understanding. \nThe three key components of self-compassion are self-kindness\, a sense of common humanity\, and balanced\, mindful awareness. Kindness opens our hearts to suffering\, so we can give ourselves what we need. Common humanity opens us to our essential interrelatedness\, so that we know we aren’t alone. Mindfulness opens us to the present moment\, so we can accept our experience with greater ease. \nSelf-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience and can be learned by anyone. Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing\, less anxiety\, depression and stress\, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise\, and satisfying personal relationships. \nWHAT TO EXPECT \nMSC is a skill-based program offered in a group format. Program activities include meditation\, short talks\, experiential exercises\, group discussion\, and home practices. MSC is a skills group rather than a retreat. The goal is for participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life. \nMSC is primarily a compassion training program rather than mindfulness training\, although mindfulness is the foundation of self-compassion. The emphasis in MSC is on building emotional resources. Compassion is a positive\, energizing emotion\, however\, while learning self-compassion\, some difficult emotions may arise. MSC is not focused on working through old injuries\, instead the focus will be on developing the skills and resources to be with ourselves in a kinder\, more compassionate way\, which results in beneficial change. The facilitators are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for this process to unfold\, and to making the journey enjoyable for everyone. \nMSC includes 8 weekly online sessions of 3 hours each\, in addition to a 3-hour online silent retreat. Prior to registering\, participants should plan to attend every session and practice mindfulness and self-compassion at least 30 minutes per day throughout the program. \nPREREQUISITES \nNo previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MSC. Join us for this two-day training\, Navigating the Nervous System: A Polyvagal Approach to Working with Complex Trauma. \nEvent Details\n \nDates: Thursday and Friday\, March 23 and 24\, 2023 \nTime: 12pm to 3:15pm EST \nLocation: Zoom \n[button title=”REGISTER ONLINE HERE” link=”#register” target=”” align=”” icon=”” icon_position=”” color=”” font_color=”” size=”2″ full_width=”” class=”” download=”” rel=”” onclick=””] \nAbout the Workshop \nThe autonomic nervous system is at the heart of daily living powerfully shaping our clients’ experiences of safety and influencing their capacity for connection. Polyvagal Theory\, through the organizing principles of hierarchy\, neuroception\, and co-regulation\, has revolutionized our understanding of how this system works. Guided by Polyvagal Theory\, we have a deep appreciation of the ways trauma shapes the nervous system and of the pathways that lead to healing. Trauma interrupts the development of autonomic regulation and sidetracks building the circuitry of safe connection. Without intervention\, adaptive survival responses become habitual autonomic patterns and pathways of connection are replaced with patterns of protection. With an updated map of the autonomic circuits that underlie behaviors and beliefs\, we have a new understanding of the characteristic post-traumatic patterns of hyperarousal\, hypervigilance\, disconnection\, and numbing and can reliably lead our clients out of adaptive survival responses into the autonomically regulated state of safety that is necessary for successful treatment. \nWorking with the autonomic nervous system brings the science of safety into practical application with ways to help clients identify and interrupt their habitual survival patterns and strategies to shape their systems toward connection. In this two-part series participants will engage in experiential practices to develop an embodied understanding of the organizing principles of Polyvagal Theory and bring the principles alive in clinical work. \nLearning Objectives \n\nConstruct an autonomic map to identify the emergent properties of states\nDetermine ways neuroception shapes behavior\nApply strategies that utilize the co-regulating pathways of the Social Engagement System in clinical work to improve clinical outcomes\nUtilize practices that bring a return to regulation\n\nTarget Audience \nAll health care professionals seeking to gain knowledge of and refine their skills in working with complex trauma. \nWebinar Recording \nThis two-day webinar will be recorded. SUMMARY:ONLINE Training – Advanced Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
DESCRIPTION:Online via Zoom\n \nThis two-day case-based learning workshop focuses on Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Complex PTSD (DBT-PTSD). \n[button title=”CLICK HERE TO REGISTER ONLINE” link=”https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/advanced-dialectical-behavior-therapy-for-complex-ptsd-tickets-334893313917″ target=”_blank” align=”” icon=”” icon_position=”” color=”” font_color=”” size=”2″ full_width=”” class=”” download=”” rel=”” onclick=””] \nPRESENTERS \n \nDr. Martin Bohus\, MD \nMartin Bohus\, MD\, received his specialty in Psychiatry and in Psychosomatic Medicine. SUMMARY:ONLINE PROGRAM – 8 Week Mindful Self-Compassion
DESCRIPTION:(Fridays: 9:00am – 12:00 pm ET) \nSilent Retreat: Saturday\, Nov. 19\, 9:00am – 12:00pm ET \n[divider height=”6″ style=”default” line=”default” themecolor=”1″] \n“Self-Compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.” Chris Germer\nTOTAL COST: $695 CAD \nThis program is being offered online via Zoom video conferencing. In order to register and participate in the program\, you will need: \n\nAn email account to receive an invitation link for each session\nA computer/tablet/smart phone with access to stable internet connectivity\nA quiet and confidential location\n\nMindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically supported\, 8-week training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion.
