SUMMARY:8 Week Mindful Self-Compassion ONLINE PROGRAM: October 19 – December 7\, 2020
DESCRIPTION:Monday Evenings: 5:30 – 8:30 pm EST\nSILENT RETREAT: Sat. November 21\, 12–3 pm EST \n“Self-Compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.” Chris Germer\nDue to concerns and recommendations regarding COVID-19\, this program is being offered online via Zoom video conferencing. \nIn order to register and participate in the program\, you will need: \n\nAn email account to receive an invitation link for each session\nA computer/tablet/smart phone with access to stable internet connectivity\nA quiet and confidential location\n\nMindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically supported\, 8-week training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer\, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness\, care and understanding. \nThe three key components of self-compassion are self-kindness\, a sense of common humanity\, and balanced\, mindful awareness. Kindness opens our hearts to suffering\, so we can give ourselves what we need. Common humanity opens us to our essential interrelatedness\, so that we know we aren’t alone. Mindfulness opens us to the present moment\, so we can accept our experience with greater ease. \nSelf-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience and can be learned by anyone. Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing\, less anxiety\, depression and stress\, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise\, and satisfying personal relationships. \nWHAT TO EXPECT \nMSC is a skill-based program offered in a group format. Program activities include meditation\, short talks\, experiential exercises\, group discussion\, and home practices. MSC is a skills group rather than a retreat. The goal is for participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life. \nMSC is primarily a compassion training program rather than mindfulness training\, although mindfulness is the foundation of self-compassion.  The emphasis in MSC is on building emotional resources. Compassion is a positive\, energizing emotion\, however\, while learning self-compassion\, some difficult emotions may arise. MSC is not focused on working through old injuries\, instead the focus will be on developing the skills and resources to be with ourselves in a kinder\, more compassionate way\, which results in beneficial change.  The facilitators are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for this process to unfold\, and to making the journey enjoyable for everyone. \nMSC includes 8 weekly online sessions of 3 hours each\, in addition to a 3-hour online silent retreat. Prior to registering\, participants should plan to attend every session and practice mindfulness and self-compassion at least 30 minutes per day throughout the program. \nPREREQUISITES \nNo previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MSC. To ensure safety\, participants are asked to provide background information when they register for the program. The following books are recommended as companions to the MSC program: \n\nThe Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer\nSelf-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself\, by Kristen Neff\nThe Mindful Path to Self-Compassion\, by Christopher Germer\n\nThis program fulfills one of the prerequisites for becoming an MSC teacher. For more information on MSC and MSC Teacher Training\, please visit www.centerformsc.org \nFEE AND REFUND POLICY \nThe total fee for the program is $695 CAD for the 8 online sessions and the silent retreat. If withdrawal of registration is received in writing up to 14 days before the first session\, a full refund less a $75 administration fee will be refunded. \nYou will receive certification for completion of the course provided you attend at least 7 of the 9 sessions. \nTHE MSC PROGRAM OFFERS SKILLS  FOR LEARNING TO: \n\nPractice self-compassion in daily life\nUnderstand the empirically-supported benefits of self-compassion\nMotivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism\nHandle difficult emotions with greater ease\nTransform challenging relationships\, old and new\nManage caregiver fatigue\nPractice the art of savoring and self-appreciation\n\nFACILITATORS \nDr. Shari Geller\, Ph.D.\nClinical Psychologist \nShari is an author\, teacher\, and clinical psychologist. She is the founder of the Therapeutic Rhythm and Mindfulness Program. Shari has a long-term mindfulness meditation practice and is a Trained Teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). Her publications include her recent book: A Practical Guide for Cultivating Therapeutic Presence and Therapeutic Presence: A Mindful Approach to Effective Therapy co-authored with Leslie Greenberg. She is the co-director of the Centre for MindBody Health (CMBH)\, in Toronto\, Canada. www.sharigeller.ca \n[divider height=”20″ style=”default” line=”default” themecolor=”1″] \nMegan Prager\nCompassion Programs Director\nUC San Diego Center for Mindfulness \nMegan is Co-Founder of Mindful Labs at UC San Diego and Compassion Programs Director at UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness. SUMMARY:Self-Compassion 8-week Group
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS SELF-COMPASSION? \nSelf-compassion is treating ourselves and our suffering with kindness and care\, rather then ignoring or hurting ourselves. \nThere are three components to  self-compassion: \n\nSelf-kindness opens our hearts to suffering; it enables us to give our-selves the kindness that we need.\nSense of common humanity opens us to our inter-relatedness;  it helps us understand we are not alone.\nBalanced\, mindful awareness opens us to the present moment; we can then accept experiences with greater ease.\n\nSelf-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience. It can be learned by anyone. Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being; reduced anxiety\, depression and stress; maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise; and satisfying personal relationships. \nWHO WE ARE \nCentre for MindBody Health brings together a community of skilled health care practitioners. We specialize in compassionate\, evidence-based\, emotion-focused and mindfulness-based psychotherapies. \nSELF-COMPASSION GROUPS \nThe self-compassion group meets weekly with a defined goal: \n\nFor participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices to evoke self-compassion in their daily lives. In this way\, participants build their emotional resources.\n\nCompassion is a positive energizing emotion\, However\, in learning self-compassion\, difficult emotions may arise. We won’t focus upon working through these emotions. Instead\, we will develop the skills and resources to be present (with ourselves and these emotions) in a kinder\, more compassionate way. \nWHAT YOU WILL LEARN \nBy participating in this group\, you will learn to: \n\nPractice self-compassion in your daily life.\nApply your mindfulness and self-compassion skills in difficult moments.\nUnderstand the benefits of self-compassion.\nMotivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism.\nHandle difficult emotions with greater ease and practical resources.\n\nTHE GROUP LEADERS\n[divider height=”10″ style=”default” line=”default” themecolor=”1″]\n[one] \nDr. Nicola Hermanto\nDr. Nicola Hermanto is a clinical psychologist. She provides a therapeutic environment that is warm\, non-judgmental\, and collaborative to support clients in making personally meaningful and lasting changes. Nicola enjoys helping clients foster compassion and acceptance towards themselves\, as well as in their relationships with others.[/one] \n[one] \nRachel Stewart\nRachel Stewart is a registered Social Worker. Her approach balances compassionate acceptance and skill building to promote motivation and change. Rachel strives to use warmth\, respect and exploration to create safety and trust while fostering growth and resilience.[/one] \nBoth are skilled Dialectical Behaviour Therapists and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills Group Leaders.\n[divider height=”10″ style=”default” line=”default” themecolor=”1″] \nCLASS SCHEDULE \nJanuary 27th – March 23rd\, 2020 (excluding Feb 17th) \nTwo-hour group sessions occur weekly on Mondays from 6 – 8 pm. SUMMARY:8 Week Mindful Self-Compassion Program
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays Evenings from 6:30 – 9:00 pm \nSILENT RETREAT: Sat. Nov. 16th 9:00 am– 1:00 pm \nMindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported\, 8-week training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Together they comprise a state of warm-hearted\, connected presence. \n  \nAFTER PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROGRAM YOU WILL BE ABLE TO: \n\nPractice self-compassion in daily life\nUnderstand the empirically-supported benefits of self-compassion\nMotivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism\nHandle difficult emotions with greater ease\nTransform challenging relationships\, old and new\nManage caregiver fatigue\nPractice the art of savoring and self-appreciation\n\n  \nWhat to expect \nThe MSC is a skill based program offered in a group format. Program activities include meditation\, short talks\, experiential exercises\, group discussion\, and home practices. MSC is a group rather than a retreat. Dr. Shari Geller is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for this process to unfold\, and to making the journey enjoyable for everyone. \nMSC includes 8 weekly sessions of 2 3/4 hours each\, in addition to a 4-hour retreat. Prior to registering\, participants should plan to attend every session and practice mindfulness and self-compassion at least 30 minutes per day throughout the program. \n  \nPREREQUISITES \nNo previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MSC. To insure safety\, participants are asked to provide background information when they register for the program. \nThe following book is included as a companion to the MSC course: \n\nThe Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer\n\nAdditional recommended books\, before or during the course\, are: \n\nSelf-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself\, by Kristen Neff\nThe Mindful Path to Self-Compassion\, by Christopher Germer\n\nThis program fulfills one of the prerequisites for becoming an MSC teacher. For more information on MSC and MSC Teacher Training\, please visit www.centerformsc.org \n  \nTotal Cost for the Program: $900 \nMay be covered by extended healthcare plans. \nPlease check with your insurance provider about your coverage. \n  \nFee and refund policy \n\nThe fee for the group is $900\, $100 per session for 9 sessions\, including the silent retreat. The fee will be paid at time of registration and held in trust.\nFor any sessions missed\, 7 calendar days are required\, or the full session charge will be billed. If you provide 7 calendar days’ notice\, you will not be charged for the missed session.\nYou will receive certification for completion of the training program provided you attend at least 7 of the 9 sessions.\n\n  \nFOR MORE INFORMATION AND INFO TO REGISTER PLEASE CONTACT: \nCamilla@sharigeller.ca\n416-855-2624 ext 1 \nDr. Shari Geller\, Ph.D.\, C.Psych.\, is an author\, teacher\, and clinical psychologist.
