Emily Barrett is a PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology at McMaster University. She has received clinical training at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton across several specialized clinics, including the Women’s Health Concerns Clinic, Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic, Mood Disorders Treatment and Research Clinic, and Borderline Personality Disorder Services Clinic. She has experience treating mood, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorders, as well as borderline personality disorder, using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Emily’s research focuses on emotion dysregulation, particularly during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Her work examines difficult or unexpected emotions, including shame, anger, anxiety, and sadness, and how individuals can be supported as they adjust to pregnancy and parenthood.
Emily brings warmth, compassion, and genuine curiosity to her work, creating a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients can feel understood and accepted. She collaborates closely with each person to develop an approach that reflects their unique experiences, strengths, identities, values, and goals. Emily supports clients in building tangible skills, reconnecting with what matters most to them, and making meaningful changes that move them toward more fulfilling and connected lives.
